how to win friends and influence people in the digital age, by dale carnegie
This is an easy read with many pearls. It's hard to remember all the wisdom in this book but to me, the ultimate takeaway is - be nice and look out for others. A few nuggets from the book:
Build relationships. You have some influence over followers but true influence over those you have relationships with.
Interactions are never neutral, aim to leave the other person better off.
Apologize swiftly over mistakes.
Successful leaders are always initiators.
Start by getting people to say yes. That earns affinity. Turn affinity into influence through a foundation of empathy.
Giving away credit is a magic multiplier.
You never know what people are going through. Be empathetic and don't lash out when mistakes are made.
Human nature dictates that we prioritize self-interest. To influence others, reverse this.
Goodness is the only investment that never fails.
Smiling is innate and crucial. Use your smile.
Listen deeply and attentively.
Don't give orders. Ask questions and involve everyone.
Help others save face. They will remember you.
The borderline between possible and impossible is where innovation happens.
